Next-Generation McLaren Project P14 Spotted Testing In The UK

Rumoured to be the replacement for the current 650S, the car codenamed P14 has been spotted in heavy disguise during testing in the UK. Time to see what we can see…

McLaren’s next step in its Super Series has been spotted again in routine testing, and the pictures give us some more clues about what’s under the camouflage.

You’d think the disguise would be more sophisticated than opaque extra panels fixed over the top of the bodywork, but while it looks a bit Batman it does the best job of concealing the shape as much as possible.

We love the twin high-level circular exhausts and the massively sculpted rear haunches, which make the car look like aerodynamics are going to play a bigger part than ever in the car’s design. Our understanding so far is that the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 will remain, but McLaren insiders tell us another engine is in development – although probably not for this car.

What are you hoping to see from the new car? Would more power get you excited, or is it less weight? Or would you change something else?

Why does this and the supra have weird wraps? If they want to test in secret paint it black or grey not attention seeking wraps

M8. Thats for camo but not in the common ‘use’ of camo . This makes sure you can’t see the finer aerodynamic details. This is the same type of wrap as the one red bull used in testing for their f1 car.. so you see this is more usefull than black or grey paint. Plus you think just because the car is painted black nobody will notice it ?

C’mon McLaren, you’re killing your own market by pumping out new supercar models every two years. Learn from Nissan, develop your current model to the best it can be.

Nope, the 650S is just an updated 12C, the 12C was capable of taking much more power so they gave it 640bhp(Using Nissan’s own example remember the transformation when they released the GT-R Black Edition with 550bhp). This put it way above the 458 with which it was competing at the time so the 650 was kind of in a league of it’s own for a little while (the Aventador was a bit of an old fart) until the 488 came along. In essence, the 650S is a 5 year old car and by the time this comes out (Probably 2018) it will be 6 or 7 years old.
