Ludicrous Toyota Supra Rumour Mill Continues To Turn As 400bhp Twin-Turbo V6 Is Suggested

Want more from the constant stream of Toyota Supra rumours? Good news: we have yet another tasty morsel for you to sink your teeth into.

This time, the claims are from ‘Mag-X’, a Japanese publication that reckons we can expect a new twin-turbo V6 from Lexus under the bonnet of the new Supra, good for 400bhp and 300lb ft before you even factor in the anticipated hybrid system. Including a little electric boost, it could even be good for as much as 500bhp.

What’s interesting is this contradicts the last Supra engine rumour we heard, which claimed the car will use BMW internal combustion power with Toyota hybrid systems. As a reminder, the new Supra is one half of a joint venture between Toyota and BMW that’ll also produce a ‘Z5’.

So, if the Lexus engine rumour is true, it’ll mean the Supra and Z5 will each get their own engine, since a V6 in a BMW would be pretty much the devil’s work. That’d make the Z5 and Supra cousins even more exclusive from one another than previously thought: already, we’re looking at a tin top Toyota vs a BMW cabriolet, and it’s even been suggested the length of each may be different thanks to a flexible platform.

So, any guesses for what the next Supra rumour will be? Make your suggestions in the comments, serious or otherwise!

My only worry regarding the new Supra is how it will affect the price of the MK4 Supra…

Toyota likely found the BMW engine to be too costly to maintain. They like to keep their low cost maintenance. That or they found the price/hp much easier to digest.
