Bugatti Will Help Chiron Owners Smash Past The 261mph Limiter

Upon initial reading of the Chiron‘s stats when the car was first revealed, the top speed of 261mph seemed a tad lacklustre. It seems ridiculous to be disappointed at such an absurd figure, but it’s less than the top speed enjoyed by the old Veyron Supersport. However, it didn’t take long to clock eyes on the phrase ‘electronically limited’, and to see that the speedometer goes up to 500kph (310mph).

So, we know it has more to come, especially with Bugatti itself hinting “this is by no means the end of the road for the Bugatti Chiron.” The company isn’t expected to do a proper top speed run until 2018, but what if a Chiron owner wants to have a crack sans limiter before then? Speaking to Car and Driver, CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer said that Bugatti will help make it a reality. Given the £1.9 million price tag of these cars, we’d expect Bugatti to sort out quite a lot for its well-heeled owners - from a thorough inspection of the car to even sorting a suitable time and venue for the occasion, perhaps VW’s Ehra-Lessien test facility.

As to what figure we can expect, prepare to see the Supersport’s top speed comfortably eclipsed. “We hold the world record with the 268 [mph] of the Veyron Supersport, and we know that we can push up the mark significantly with the extra 300 horsepower of the Chiron,” Dürheimer said.

Dürheimer also didn’t rule out even more powerful versions of the Chiron, and hinted that a roadster version with a T-bar style roof could happen. “We are weighing [up] four strategic alternatives, all of them sensational. One of them is the Galibier,” Dürheimer states. Whether or not any eventual Galibier production car would be anything like the cancelled five-door 16C Galibier, we’ll have to wait and see.

For anyone curious at the top speed, calculating the top speed comes to about 456 km/h or 283 mph with sloppy rounding, basing the figures off what I found on Google.

I´m sure they´ll do a new record attempt. 500kmh would be absolutely sick. Lets wait and see.
