Want to hear the sound of 1792bhp being explosively developed at 8000rpm? Click the play button above. Preferably after plugging in some headphones.

The noise you’re hearing is generated from a General Motors LS V8, heavily modified by Texan tuner Hennessey. Although perhaps ‘heavily modified’ doesn’t quite cut it - little is carried over other than the basic architecture.

The F5 hypercar’s engine uses a custom block, along with new pistons, connecting rods and a fresh crankshaft. An unusual intake manifold meanwhile positions the intercooler between the plenum and the high-flow cylinder heads. This reduces the temperature of the air exiting the turbochargers before it goes into the combustion chamber, which means more air density and a better bang.

The two ball bearing turbochargers, by the way, have 3D-printed compressor housings. They’re cranked up to 23 psi, helping the 6.6-litre V8 achieve that ridiculous, near-2000bhp output, along with 1193lb ft of torque.

What you have to bear in mind, is this colossus of an engine will be propelling a car that Hennessey claims will weigh less than 1400kg. Raw speed will not be a problem for this car.

The F5 may have been beaten by the Chiron Super Sport in the race to 300mph when it hit 304mph at Ehra-Lessien, but we wouldn’t want to bet against Hennessey’s creation going even quicker.
