We weren’t expecting McLaren’s 2019 Geneva Motor Show presence to offer up any surprises. Woking’s main debuts consisted of the 720S and 600LT Spiders, two cars that have already been launched to the media. However, the British manufacturer had a little something up its sleeve: a new grand tourer.

Not that we know a whole lot about it. The name hasn’t been revealed, and all we have to go on in terms of the design is a single image of a heavily disguised test mule. McLaren has at least said that the mid-engined car will be a “unique, tailored model,” so it’s not going to be in a similar vein to the 570GT, which is merely a tweaked version of the 570S.

CEO Mike Flewitt said that the latest addition to the McLaren stable “will be a car that combines competition levels of performance with continent-crossing capability, wrapped in a beautiful lightweight body”. He added: “it will be the lightest of Grand Tourers and by also having the best power-to-weight ratio, I promise it will be one of the quickest.”

It’ll almost certainly be powered by a twin-turbo V8, and built around a carbonfibre cell. We shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out more, with McLaren promising to reveal the car within a few months.
