Holden may no longer make its own cars, but clearly, the Australian brand is still capable of cooking up something just a little bit bonkers.

What you see here is a little different to the V8 monsters beloved of the brand, though. It’s called the Time Attack Concept, and it’s celebrating the past - the passing of 50 years since Holden’s first Bathurst victory - by looking to the future.

Propelled by a “Reconfigurable Graphene Hybrid Power Pack” and four inboard permanent magnet motors, it develops 1341bhp and an absurd 2389lb ft of torque. That’s enough to get the Time Attack from 0-62mph in 1.25 seconds, on to a top speed just shy of 300mph. Well, in theory - the car only exists in the virtual world.

In simulations, the car is capable of generating 6.5 lateral G, a similar figure to the cornering forces managed by modern F1 cars. It’s also clocked a simulated 1:29.30 lap of Mount Panorama circuit. To put that in context, the current lap record - set by Shane van Gisbergen in a McLaren 650S GT3 two years ago - is 2:01.567.

Holden's Time Attack concept could be charged in just 90 seconds. If it was real. And 1000kW car chargers existed.

The bodywork - which resembles a Star Wars antagonist at the back thanks to that gigantic diffuser - is comprised of carbon kevlar composite panels with a polycarbonate graphene coat for the upper sections. Under all that, you’ll find front and rear double wishbones and hilariously fat 310-width tyres at each corner.

There’s some clever aero trickery going on too. At the back is an active rear wing that doubles as an air brake, and there are four venturi tunnels running under the car, each with a fan to accelerate the airflow through them.

Rather see something real blasting around Mount Panorama? The Bathurst 1000 is taking place this weekend.
