If you like what you see here, then be prepared to pay through the nose. That’s if you’re one of the lucky people living in Europe, Africa or indeed the Middle East who can nail down the keys to either Alfa Romeo’s new Giulia or Stelvio Quadrifoglio NRing.

Only 108 examples of each are being built, with an starting price of £82,000 and £89,000 respectively. Both adopt the firm’s 503bhp, 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, meaning the Stelvio can hit 176mph flat out and the Giulia a Porsche-baiting 191mph.

So what’s the story behind the name? Both cars recently set lap records around the planet’s most revered race track - the Nürburgring - and Alfa Romeo wants to cash in on it, of course.

Changes to both models - which in true Italian style look truly stunning - are largely cosmetic. Both come in matte grey paint to mark them out as something a little more special, while the Giulia has a carbon fibre roof and its big brother an electric panoramic sunroof.

On the inside there are more bells and whistles by way of carbon-fibre finished Sparco seats. In fact, Alfa Romeo must have shaken hands on a discounted rate for the delicious weaved stuff, because the steering wheel, dash and doors are all trimmed with the weight-saving material.

To finish off the ‘NRing’ look, a small badge is positioned on the dash with the car’s number. To cement their status as ‘instant classics’, each one gets an Authenticity Certification.

Also bundled into the price is the chance for owners to attend a driving course at the Nürburgring in 2019, plus a scale model of their chosen wheels. Lovely.
