Football and Cars: The Connection

Hi CT!!! So today we have after along time a #blogpost from me. The footie fever is on and being both a huge football fan and also a massive car nut, I’m going to tell you today about the mainly ‘commercial’ connection between the football and car world. Let’s get right into it

Manchester United and Chevrolet

Starting off with the club with the largest fan following in the world, English giants Manchester United have American giants Chevrolet as their principal sponsor. Chevy signed a contract with United in 2012 making them the main sponsor from the 2014 season in a deal worth a whopping $488 million. Not only are Chevy the sponsors, they have also started football programs in some parts of the world called Chevrolet FC.

Vfl Wolfsburg and Volkswagen

German top-flight club Vfl Wolfsburg has a very very strong connection to Volkswagen, in fact, not many know that the German carmaker wholly owns the club. The two have been related since the club’s inception way back in 1945, just after the second world war. The stadium in the title picture is the Volkswagen Arena which hosts Wolfsburg’s home matches, also the players are seen regularly in Porsches or even Bugattis in videos. Nice..

British National Teams and Vauxhall

British carmaker Vauxhall signed a deal in 2011 to support all British national teams (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) if you didn’t know. This move was considered largely for financial gain as sponsoring the 4 nations gives Vauxhall great exposure in the UK market. Vauxhall also plays significant parts in arranging friendlies in the United Kingdom.

Hyundai and FIFA

Korean manufacturers Hyundai and Kia have been the Official Automotive Sponsors of FIFA since 1999, and hence have exclusive rights to all FIFA competitions. Hyundai donates the majority of vehicles used in FIFA competitions, and with upcoming World Cups in Russia and Qatar, Both these guys are getting great market exposure

Ford and UEFA

For the last point in my blogpost, We have Ford and UEFA, two giants of their own areas, collaborating. Ford, like Hyundai gives over 900 cars each year like the Galaxy and Transit to help in logistics in UEFA Champions League games. Ford has also released models of the Kuga and Mondeo during Champions League final matches, giving them maximum exposure. This partnership has been going on for the past 23 years.

So guys, lemme know what you think of the blogpost and who do you think will win the Euros??

Peace out!!

There is a Euro 2016 ad featuring a Kia Sportage, which I really really hate FIFA for by the way…
