Volvo P1800 Remake Renderings

There's been quite a few projects lately by companies big and small that aim to remake or reimagine classic vehicles. Retro just never does go away, does it?  I think it's really cool to see and a new car design has come out today based on the old Volvo P1800 and it is extremely cool.

There's been quite a few projects lately by companies big and small that aim to remake or reimagine classic vehicles. Retro just never does go away, does it?  I think it's really cool to see and a new car design has come out today based on the old Volvo P1800 and it is extremely cool.

Volvo P1800 New

Now that's a Volvo in true GT style! This new remake is based on the classic Volvo P1800 sports car and in my opinion, definitely improves on the design of that car. This one is extremely good looking; almost Bristol-like in it's design orientation.

Want to know an interesting fact about the P1800? A 1966 Volvo 1800S holds the Guiness World Record for highest miles driven in the same vehicle. Owner Irvin Gordon has been driving his car for more then 50 years and has now reached the unbelievable 2.7 million mile mark. His goal is to hit 3 million. Amazingly, the car is all original as well; it has covered 2.7 million miles all with "the same engine, same radio, same axles, same transmission and of course the same driver" according to Gordon.

I digress but I thought that was interesting! This remake is the brainchild of Koenigsegg engineer Mattias Vöx and his company Vox Customs. He has dreamed up other Volvo creations  in the past, like his 600 horsepower 1967 Volvo Amazon station wagon. This time he turns to another Volvo vehicle, the P1800.

To do that, he enlisted Vizualtech's Bo Zolland who obviously, is preserving much of the same design as the original. The changes mainly center around modernizing components and changing the dimensions to accommodate what Vöx wants to do with the car.  Some of those changes include a new front wing, side-skirts, flat underbody, active rear diffuser all to help improve the aerodynamics and a redesigned interior is well.

It isn't apparent whether the new vehicle will be based on the original P1800 or if it will be on it's own chassis. Details should be forthcoming. Vöx plans to drop in a turbocharged V8 from the XC90 that makes 600 horsepower. Construction on the first vehicle is reportedly underway, with the car to enter limited production afterwards. What a treat, I can't wait to see more!
