VB - a firm started by ex-Lamborghini test driver Valentino Balboni - has just revealed a new exhaust system for the Aventador SVJ

Valentino Balboni does not seem the least bit keen on the idea of fully retiring. After 40 years as a Lamborghini test driver, the 70-year-old Italian - who even had a limited-edition Gallardo named after him - is now making high-end exhausts under his brand ‘VB’.

Since its establishment a few years ago, VB has built two ultra-exclusive systems - one for the Aventador SV, and another for the Aventador S. Its third system has just been revealed, and predictably, it’s a thing of beauty.

This grade 2 titanium work of art is for the Aventador SVJ, and it weighs just 4.66kg, decreasing the weight of the standard car by one per cent. The hand-crafted, TIG-welded set of pipes is intended to “embody the horns of the Raging Bull as further testimony of VB’s dedication to Lamborghini history”.

Handily, it sits on the SVJ’s factory exhaust mounting points. And as for the noise, Balboni seems pretty confident. “It’s all about the purity of sound,” he said, adding that the exhaust is “the best system that can possibly be manufactured for the extraordinary SVJ.”

We don’t know how much it costs, but we do know it will - like VB’s past efforts - be a limited-run affair. Just 63 exhausts will be built, plus an additional 15 units bearing the signature of Balboni himself.
