This Bonkers 265.6mph Run Made The Hennessey Venom GT Spyder The World's Fastest Convertible

Texan tuning house Hennessey sent its Venom GT Spyder down a runway at Naval Air Station Lemoore, setting a convertible top speed record in the process

Like the 270.49mph set by the tin top version of the Venom a few years ago, we’re guessing this isn’t going to be an ‘official’ record recognised by Guinness at any point. In the case of that 270mph effort, it wasn’t recognised by the organisation as there was only one run (for an official record it would need an average taken from two runs), and not enough Venoms had been built to classify it as a proper production car.

Still, 265.6mph is massively impressive for a car with no roof, and is 11mph higher than the top whack managed by the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. To get it to that speed, the GT Spyder’s 7.0-litre LSX V8 is turned up to an unholy 1451hp, with 1287lb ft of torque on offer. It’s able to hit 200mph in a face-bending 13 seconds.

I would be happy to see both Hennessey and Koenigsegg kick Bugatti’s S.

As long as it is road legal, I’ll count it as the fastest production car ever. Come on Koenigsegg, your turn..

Funny how manufacturers say dual-clutch autos are the best ‘boxes for high-performance cars (which is kinda true), when good old ‘Murica uses manuals for the fastest convertible in the world.

The kind of gearbox makes no difference in terms of topspeed?! A dualclutch gearbox can shift a lot faster, but here nobody cares about accerleration

fastest in a straigh line, not on a track! That manual gearbox is tuned for a top speed. Don’t get me wrong, i choose to drive a manual over a automatic, but automatics are way better track cars than a manual.

Koenigsegg builds a car with a higher top speed next year.
Checkmate, Hennessey.

Face-bending is the correct word for such a brutal acceleration and high speed with with the top down (I guess).

He isn’t a scam, lol It is a aftermarket performance shop, you cant take pretty much any car to them and if you have the cash they will turn it into something crazy. I love some of the things they have built but I have read that John Hennessy himself is not a nice dude hahahaha but he he doesn’t own that shop to be nice I suppose

He’ll be too busy criticizing it for having a Lotus supplied body.
