The Hybrid Fisker Karma Is So 2011: This Supercharged 6.2 V8 Karma Is So Now

Want a Fisker Karma, but with V8 power? VL Automotive has the answer...

Fans of thumping V8s who also have a penchant for aesthetic perfection, rejoice! Detroit-based VL Automotive has revealed plans to fit the gorgeous Fisker Karma with a choice of two powerful V8s engines, the same units you'll find in the Chevrolet Corvette.

The base model gets a 6.2-litre LT1 direct-injection unit developing 450bhp and 449lb ft.

But for real aficionados, there can only be one choice – the 6.2-Litre supercharged LS9 engine from the ZR1. It boasts 638bhp at 6500rpm and 608lb ft of torque at 3800rpm thanks, mostly, to the addition of an Eaton four-lobe roots supercharger.

What really grabbed our attention, though, is the near-400kg weight saving that VL claims to make by scrapping any sign of the Karma's electric hearts.

Both cars will be offered with either a four-speed automatic ‘box or a six-speed manual with a twin-disc clutch, and both cars also feature a tasty quad exhaust in place of the electric car’s sound generators.

Outside, changes include a new grille – bit of a shame considering how nice the old one was – and a power bulge to accommodate the supercharger of the ZR1 version. Thankfully, the Fisker’s lovely standard cabin has been left well alone.

The cars are expected to be priced at around £124k, while the company plans to offer a V8 conversion to existing owners for around half that amount.

If only Justin Bieber didn't own one...
