These days the Porsche Cayman S is so good, it makes us wonder why anyone would bother spending the extra on a 911. This is now even more the case, as Porsche has revealed a new range-topping GTS version for the Cayman, as well as the Boxster.

Each car's 3.4-litre flat-six gets a 15bhp boost over their respective S versions, resulting in 335bhp for the Cayman, and 325bhp for the Boxster. Each car also gets a titchy torque boost of 7lb/ft, giving a new figure of 280lb/ft in the Cayman and 272lb/ft in the Boxster

With the PDK dual-clutch gearbox fitted, 0-62mph is at 4.6 seconds in the Cayman GTS and 4.7 seconds in the Boxster - which equates to a decent 0.3sec shaved off for both cars. The manual gearboxes get slightly higher top speeds than the PDK versions: 177mph for the Cayman and 175mph for the Boxster.

There are differences underneath, too. Both cars get the Sport Chrono package and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as standard; they're usually pricey options boxes on the Boxster S and Cayman S.

The exteriors get a nicely subtle fiddle, with altered front and rear bumpers, and Bi-Xenon headlights with a black finish. 20-inch Cayman S wheels fill each arch. Inside, you'll find lashings of 'because racecar' Alcantara trim.

The cost for all this? The Boxster GTS weighs in at £52,879, while you'll need to drop £55,397 to bag its Cayman brother. Compared to a Boxster S or Cayman S with the same 20-inch wheels and Sport Chrono/PASM options, that works out at around £3000 more apiece. It's available to order now.
