The Biker Who Chose A 40ft Cliff Drop Over A Potentially Fatal Head-On Is Guilty Of Dangerous Driving

Remember the rider who chose to fly off the 'Cat and Fiddle' road to avoid a head-on crash? He's been in court to face a charge of dangerous driving

Last April we featured the above video of a biker choosing a 40-foot drop over a potentially fatal head-on with a car, after going wide on a corner of the A537 near Buxton, UK. BBC News reports that the rider - 22-year-old Jack Sanderson of Cheshire - has now been found guilty of dangerous driving. He told Macclesfield Magistrates’ court that “I was in full control until I hit the fence. I drove into the fence to avoid a collision.” He’ll be sentenced next week.

As well as the dangerous driving conviction, Sanderson also has to deal with the landowner of the crash site, who wants £1000 in compensation for the fence the biker smashed through.

The A537 - also known as the Cat and Fiddle - is widely seen as one of the best driving and riding roads in the country, but its challenging, twisty nature also makes it an accident black spot and is statistically one of the UK’s most dangerous roads.
