This is the Range Rover Sport SVR: the fastest, most powerful Land Rover ever produced.

The latest instalment of the performance SUV packs the frankly ridiculous 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine found in the likes of the ballistic Jaguar XFR-S, mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. That means you get 543bhp and 502lbs ft or torque, resulting in a 4.5sec 0-60mph time and electronically limited 162mph top speed. The four-wheel drive system will provide endless grip for all that power.

To ensure it has the theatre to back up its on-paper pace, the Sport gets a two-stage active exhaust, which features electronically controlled valves that manage the noise and performance for a ‘racecar-inspired soundtrack’ when you’re giving it the beans, while remaining unassuming in town. We’ve got an XFR-S in at the moment, and can assure you that if the SVR sounds half as good as the Jag we’re in for a treat.

This is more than just a big, shouty engine, though. The new car’s all-aluminium monocoque means this Sport is a full 39 per cent lighter than its predecessor, and benefits from the same terrain conquering abilities as the standard cars. With permanent four-wheel drive, a low range option and the Terrain Response system automatically selecting the appropriate terrain programme, any surface can be a race track.

Continuing the historically bling styling that has made the Sport popular with the rich and famous, the new SVR gets massive 21-inch alloys wrapped in all-terrain tyres from standard, with the option to upgrade to 22-inch wheels with sticky Continental rubber. Inside there are bucket seats to make this RR stand out from its siblings.

The Range Rover Sport SVR has already laid its performance credentials down for all to see with a Nürburgring lap time of 8 minutes 14 seconds, but will make its rather more subdued global debut at Pebble Beach on 14th August.

First deliveries are expected in early 2015, with a price tag of £93,450.
