The TOYOTA MEGA CRUISER - A Japanese Humvee!

This came up at one of those times when i got bored and drifted deep into the internet but good lord was i fascinated by this find and i thought to research about this and share it with you guys. The Toyota Mega Cruiser was introduced in 1995 for military use and it resembled a lot like the other very famous military vehicle, the Hummer H1. Even though it was designed for the military use, this truck also was used by the police and fire rescue departments and eventually seeped to the general public.

With no surprise to me, this was only sold in Japan and saw expensive taxes imposed by the Japanese Government because obviously this thing is HUGE! And by HUGE, I mean HUGE HUGE because this thing came from a country where small kei cars rule the roads with engines the size of a soft drink can.

If you still don’t get the context of how big this might be, There are TWO wipers for the rear windscreen. A very limited number was sold to the general public and the power came from 4.1 L turbo diesel which put out nearly 150 hp and 382 Nm (282 ft·lbf) of torque which was available at just mere 1800 rpm’s. It featured front, center and rear differential locks and four wheel steer or else this thing might have not cleared even a single Japanese street.

Production ended in 2002 and while its American counterpart got a status of a pure LEGENDS, this Toyota was swept back into the history books of the cool and quirky era of the Japanese Automaker.

Its obviously not a practical car for the streets - it was really made to serve its purpose in the military and people love the brand for this thing alone because it holds a n important role in the American History but the later models like the H2 and H3 i think were just made to appear in rap videos donked out with spinning chrome wheels!
