#rant The reasons why GTA Online was considered as toxic/cancer by many players (not insulting)

Disclaimer: This blog is based on what me and my former GTA Online-playing friends had experienced when playing GTA Online. If you are one of the players who play GTA Online and you disagree with these, it’s recommended that you don’t read this blog.

So, it’s the GTA Online. The large, busy, exciting and active portion of San Andreas. You always see players playing these almost everyday to the content of making more and more money and progress. But today, me and my friends let you to see the dark side of GTA Online. The actual, dark side, and why GTA Online was hated by some players, and was considered as toxic/cancer. Here were the reasons.

1. Hackers and modders. Hackers and modders. Everywhere.

Hacking. The previously number one main problem in GTA Online, especially when you’re playing on PC. Previously, before Rockstar took hard action against them, hackers and modders were on almost every single public lobby, wreaking havoc to others, making inconvenience, trolling, attacking, putting other player’s reputation at risk, and more. You were the luckiest player if you can find a public lobby without hackers or modders in that time.

This were proven to be the ultimate problem to players, as not only you will feel inconvenient about them. You were also at risk when they attack you. Especially, when you were the victim of the hack called ‘Money Dropping’, where you can also be caught by Rockstar with them thinking that you mod some money into your account.

Extra: 1a. Hijacking (taking control of another player’s gameplay and account)

Ah, the interesting part. One of the reasons why I left GTA Online and end up being a single-player modder. In this case, being hijacked means someone else in the lobby can take control of your gameplay. Yeah, what I mean by take control, is that, they really can control your character movement, what your character acts and what your character is doing. They can even make you do what you actually were not meant to do, e.g. killing another player with your character despite you’re not doing that. Or, in the worst case scenario, they can made your character do inconvenient or rule-breaking things, such as raping another players (remember the GTA Online player raping controversy?), use your player to do hacks, etc.

Extra: 1b. Players exploiting glitches instead of asking them to be fixed.

Glitches and bugs were meant to be fixed, not to be exploited for your own advantage. Turns out that many players had abused it, giving it an edge of unfair advantage over another players. This creates a problem as players who were not glitching were unable to keep up with their level.

2. Tools and griefers almost everywhere.

Let’s put aside the illegal hacks/mods, and put something legal, but still annoying or making inconvenience to another players. You got yourself tools/griefers who always want to disturb you, or want you (even by force) to play with their style, not your style. Once you refuse to do what they want you to do, they will be ready to kick your *ss anytime. Soon, you’ll be encountering them with the Mammoth Hydras, Rhino Tanks, Pegassi Oppressor, RPGs, Rocket Launchers, Miniguns, Orbital Cannons, etc. prepared to eliminate you at any time. Or they can just steal any car and run you over with speed.

And unlike the hackers/modders stuff, Rockstar can’t do anything with it since they’re legal and not breaking the rules.

3. The community itself is the main trigger.

Oooookay, so why it’s the community? You can see by how the community reacts/treats other players. Ranging from some childish players who tend to scream at the mic which disturbs other players, people who uses vulgar/offensive words during chats, people who threaten you over something that they didn’t want to happen (e.g. you won a race that they were supposed to win). And don’t forget, you might not know that some of the players might just be the tools/griefers.

Extra: Rockstar's items itself. Many overpriced things nowadays and locked items until you reach the required level.

If you somehow were not bothered by the first 3, there’s a chance that you might get bothered by these. You might always realized that DLC cars were getting really, and really expensive now. Take for example, a Dominator GTX priced the same as a Zentorno, an Issi Classic priced more than a Vacca, a Tezeract electric concept car that costs almost GTA$3 million, and more. And speaking about locked items? There’s a huge chance that it will cause you to miss some of the limited-time items if you’re a low-level player, and made you had to do grinding the whole time.

So that’s all! Anything I missed? Feel free to comment them below!

Greetings,
The Best Street Racer in San Andreas

If there’s anyone to blame, it’s Rockstar themselves. Why? It’s because that Rockstar is overpricing every single damn thing in the game, so much that you can’t afford anything and need actual hacks and mods to get them. Rockstar is also considered one of the most greedy videogame companies of all time.

Would you rather pay for the DLC with real money? That’s what I thought.

Forza Napoli

I dont know if you have noticed but i think R* adjusted parts prices at Los Santos Customs for street/cheap/base game/older DLC vehicles, I mean I bought the regular Kuruma (66k sale price) this week, I noticed a stage 4 engine upgrade was almost 33k, felt odd since thats almost super car leve of upgrade price, considering previous weeks I was modding some traffic/cheap cars and it was much cheaper to mod.

Are you blaming players for not wanting to buy microtransactions and using glitches?
I don’t want to grind for 8 hours to get 1 car from the new DLC. I want to have fun.

I’m not. I’m just stating that it’s for those who want to enjoy the DLC cars, then they must do that (grinding). If you don’t, then just skip that statement.

Honestly this feels more like a crybaby rant because you’ve had a bad experience.

1st point, about the whole modders thing. There are barely any modders, and even if there is. They don’t do anything. If you don’t want to deal with that modder, switch session. Easy as that, or make a solo session, invite your friends and crew.

The last part about “the interesting part” is absolutely petty. The only thing they can do so far to my knowledge is freezing you where you can only jump to move and you cannot drive. Sure, they can also kill a person and it says the killer is you, but how is that game breaking in any way or form? The last line really grinds my gears tho, raping someone in a videogame because a modder is being an idiot and you feel bad for doing that action towards a player? Like what are you afraid of, that’s the worst argument i’ve heard of. Again, swap session.

I cannot believe how ignorant you sound when you say “Oh but the Banshee has a mid drive speed boost bug” they removed that “feature” ages ago and put it back into the game because heaps amount of fans loved that bug. And it’s not only the banshee who can do MDSB, every single car can. And that’s how you also drift in this game, so you’re basically crying about they should remove something from their game and get rid of a massive amount of the playerbase.

You’re not going to use the MDSB in races, at all. So the whole argument about what a bad thing it is, is incredibly ignorant.

Hydras can be easily taken down. Go CEO, grab some BST, and shoot him with your sniper. Easy as that, if he swoops down to kill you, Easy way out or kill yourself. If they come with a tank, go off radar, take a car and put sticky bombs on it. Drive up next to the tank and go boom, easy as that. Rpgs, well. Don’t get close to them, same goes for miniguns.

Only thing I can agree is how toxic players are, it’s the worst community i’ve ever been a part of. But it also depends on who you associate yourself with, come to a car crew and race/drift with them and you’ll have a lifetime of fun without toxixity.

With the prices of the items, that’s kinds iffy. Because inflation is a thing, and you can get heaps amount of money in no time. There is also passive money income and vehicle warehouse. So i don’t necessarily agree with the price is too steep. But I can see how it’s a problem.

  1. The main point is that if player used your account to do that. That’s a big problem, as most of the time you’ll get the blame. You don’t want to get in trouble for something you didn’t do, right?
  2. Modders? In the past there were lots of them, especially in public lobbies. Gladly they were reduced now.
  3. Well, you can always disagree about the vehicle pricing. But the prices were now quite unfriendly to new players, or any players that had a low level. (However, this can be avoided by the Criminal Enterprise pack)
  4. Griefers can be taken down (I know), but they were quite difficult to do.

I hate GTA Online, because all the DLCs are exclusive for the online ,and the single player mode looks death. Besides ,i can’t play online, i don’t have a PS Plus account
