Football and Bugatti isn’t a far-fetched association - naturally, the elite millionaires of the sport have been known to gravitate towards the French hypercar manufacturer’s finest. However, the two have never come together quite so literally as this new collaboration with Adidas.

Bugatti has worked with the German sportswear manufacturer to produce a limited run of its X Crazyfast boot, with a press release tenuously linking the Chiron's W16 to its sole construction allowing for ‘rapid acceleration’. Yes, we cringed a little too.

Adidas has used the trademark Bugatti blue and black colours for the boot, as well as adding an ‘EB’ logo to both the side and the rear. Oh, and the phrases “Impossible is Nothing” and “Create the Incomparable”, for reasons.

Also differing from a standard pair is the addition of a carbon fibre inlay, said to mimic the weave of the Chiron’s bodywork.

With only 99 pairs said to be made, the Adidas X Crazyfast Bugatti will be rarer than a Chiron - with the hypercar only set for a production run of 500. Each will come with a box said to feature an exterior design inspired by the weaves of carbon fibre.

They’ll make an on-pitch debut sometime in November on the feet of 2022 Ballon d’Or and World Cup winner Karim Benzema, as well as AC Milan winger Rafael Leo.

Wiebke Stahl, Bugatti’s managing director, said: “Bugatti is a brand renowned for its innovations and engineering ingenuity. Always inspired by the vision of it creates incomparable automotive masterpieces.

“We share this relentless drive for perfection with Adidas, who apply the same rigorous approach to their boots, with ever lighter and more effective designs. And in this collaboration, we celebrate this shared pioneering spirit in an authentic way, right down to the innovative method of releasing it to enthusiasts of both our brands.”

You’ll be able to buy a pair yourself at auction. Don’t keep your eyes peeled on eBay though - because of course, Adidas will be selling them through its own Web 3 platform with cryptocurrency as the only accepted method of payment. Probably a better investment than holding on to those digital pennies, anyway…
