The ultimate version of the legendary McLaren F1 is surely the GT. Just three were made to homologate a new ‘longtail’ version of the F1 racing car, which was facing ever tougher competition from purpose-built racers like the Porsche 911 GT1 and Mercedes CLK-GTR.

This month, we’ll be seeing a tribute for this hugely special car based on the P1 GTR, although it won’t come from McLaren itself. Nope, it’s the work of Lanzante, the same hyper-specialised firm behind a road car conversion of the monstrous GTR track toy.

It’s been announced that the car will be revealed next Friday at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, although some of the conversion work done to the first P1 GTR was showcased by Lanzante a few months ago. The level of detail is - predictably - astonishing.

You might remember Lanzante drove one of its road-converted GTRs to the Nurburgring, where it clocked a 6min 43.2sec lap, before being driven back home to Britain. Well, the new aero package of this GT version should make it even faster, so who knows, perhaps a follow-up lap is imminent…
