The Aston Martin DB11 AMR Is A 630bhp Super GT

If you rather like the idea of a V12 DB11 but find it just a bit too soft, you have two options. You either buy the tauter and lighter V8 DB11, or you wait until the Ferrari 812-rivalling DBS Superleggera is here. But, there is now a third way: the new DB11 AMR.

It’s Aston Martin’s second AMR-branded car - following the Rapide AMR - and we rather like what we see. It has the same 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 as the normal DB11, only here, Aston Martin has given it a little tickle to bring the total output to 630 bhp. With its newfound poke, it’s now good for a 3.7 0-62 mph sprint (two tenths quicker than before) and a top speed of 208mph.

That V12 will be more vocal thanks to some exhaust tuning, and the shifts from the eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox are a little snappier than before. The chassis has been tweaked meanwhile, and although Aston Martin hasn’t gone into specifics, the company has said that the changes done by Chief Engineer Matt Becker and his team should give a “greater sense of connection without harming the supple ride.” Nice.

To ensure it doesn’t look like any old DB11 as it rolls around Kensington, the AMR has been treated to a smattering of gloss black and carbonfibre details. Neat touches include carbonfibre side strakes and bonnet ‘blades’, and a gloss black roof.

On the inside you’ll find vast quantities of leather and Alcantara, embossed AMR logos plus contrasting lime stripes and stitching. The posher AMR Signature Edition (above and below) has ‘Dark Knight’ leather patches, ‘Satin Dark Chrome’ switchgear and yet more carbonfibre both inside and out.

The Signature car is limited to just 100 units priced at £201,995 a pop, while the standard AMR Pro will set you back £174,995.
