The Audi R8 Is No Match For Porsche's Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid

Can the monstrous power of the Panamera Turbo S overcome its weight to take victory against a mid-engined supercar? The answer is yes...

The range-topping Porsche Panamera is not a light car. Thanks to the Turbo S E-Hybrid having a twin-turbo V8 plus bulky batteries and a big electric motor to carry around, and because it’s conspicuously large, it weights 2.3 tonnes. The fatty.

But, it also produces a combined 671bhp from its hybrid powertrain, and helped to the instant torque delivery of its motor, it’s stupidly quick off the mark. You’re looking at 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds, which is supercar territory.

In that case, it’d be rude not to drag race it against a supercar for YouTube glory, right? Happily, Autocar has delivered the goods, by pitting the Turbo S against an Audi R8. Granted, the Porsche left the start line ever so slightly before the Audi, but with a more even start, we reckon the result would be the same - the V10-powered machine just doesn’t have an answer for the big V8 hatchback.

Of course, the result might not have gone the Porsche’s way if a V10 Plus R8 was used rather than the 533bhp base model. Rematch, anyone?
