Nissan's 370Z To Be Replaced With '400Z' Sports Car With Up To 475bhp

A coupe replacement for the 370Z has reportedly been given the go ahead, and we can expect a Nismo version with nearly 500bhp
Nissan's 370Z To Be Replaced With '400Z' Sports Car With Up To 475bhp

The future of the 370Z has looked bleak for some time. Rumours of it being kinda/sorta replaced with a sporty crossover have been doing the rounds for a few years now, and more recently, it was starting to sound like there wouldn’t be any kind of successor for the current Z-car.

The latest batch of news is more positive, however. According to Autocar, an all-new model to replace the ageing 370Z has been given “the green light,” and yes, it’ll be a proper coupe and not some jacked-up soft-roader.

Power will come from the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 used in the likes of the Infiniti Q50 and Q60, with an anticipated output similar to the 399bhp state of tune it enjoys in those cars. That’d be for the standard car, which will go on sale in 2020, but there will be a 475bhp, 451lb ft Nismo version with all-wheel drive, due to arrive in 2021. The name hasn’t been decided, although ‘400Z’ is mooted, according to Autocar’s insiders.

We may not have to wait that long to see the car, either. A preview concept should be with us before the end of 2018, while the production car will have its big reveal just over a year later.

It’s going to have the same engine as the Q60 with a base model of 300HP and a Nismo version with 400HP, it will be RWD and will named 300Z, and the manual will disappear just like It did with the new Supra (The Infiniti Q60 doesn’t offer an Auto). Those 475 and 500 HP numbers won’t happen on a Nissan Z, because is too light and it would become a completely different car, and it won’t be AWD because Nissan wouldn’t cannibalize the next Gen GT-R and because the Z is supposed to be an affordable car.
That’s just my humble opinion. Don’t downvote if it hurts your feelings.

For a 400z it would have to be a 4.0L

Why not VK40?
A VK45 with even shorter stroke.

Thats why I love and respect Nissan. Knowing that it does not spool money in the Accounts but doing Fan Service and building the Brand. But am really curious how they want to position it next to the GTR and the other competitors. Looks really the Z will be more a competitor of the new Supra than the GTR will be.

Probably, the new GTR will be set to compete with 720S and the rest of the competition. As for the Z, yeah it’ll compete with the new supra. Basically, GTR is sport GT car (just call it as a sportscar) that can compete with supercars. At least, Nissan, Toyota, and Honda didn’t kill their iconic nameplates

If it comes off it could be awesome. Big change going back to turbo but not unexpected. Nismo torque figure seems weird though…that’s a huge jump in torque over the standard engine.
