If you know an owner of a Range Rover or Land Rover Discovery, you’ll probably spend half your waking day listening to them bang on about how useful their split tailgate is. “It’s a seat,” they rant. “It’s a table,” they froth. Well, to paraphrase a famous line from Crocodile Dundee II, that’s not a seat: this is a seat.

Rolls-Royce has revealed the Viewing Suite, a feature on the new Cullinan super-luxury SUV. A single button press prompts two leather-finished chairs to emerge gracefully from a cavity beneath the boot floor, joined in the act by a small cocktail table. The chairs face slightly inward, towards the table, for a ‘more intimate’ setting.

From these folding perches a Cullinan owner can, says Rolls, “take in the world’s most breath-taking vistas, view a sports event or even watch their children take part in their school sports day.”

There will also presumably be an optional fridge with enough space for a bottle of Bollinger and a couple of champagne flutes. You’ll need something to put on your table, after all. Torsten Müller-Ötvös, company CEO, said:

“The beauty of Cullinan’s Viewing Suite, the manner in which it deploys so effortlessly, the attention to detail, the finest leathers that match the interior of the customer’s Cullinan, and how it all comes together to bring beautiful furniture to the most remote places, all bear testimony to the unequalled Bespoke competence of the designers and craftspeople at the Home of Rolls-Royce.

“It is a beautiful piece of furniture. Indeed, it is the best seat in the house.”
