A 6x6 pick-up truck is surely the ultimate in automotive silliness. These monsters are the biggest and baddest of big boys’ toys, and Hennessey’s F-150-based ‘VelociRaptor’ six-wheeler is one of the meanest of the lot. And after “teasing” the car at SEMA last month, Hennessey has divulged all the juicy details we’ve been waiting for.

As a reminder, it costs $349,000. Yep, or just over a quarter million in British pounds sterling. Still, that’s at least less than the $500k or so Mercedes wanted for its AMG G63 6x6 a few years back. So what does your $350k get you when it comes to Hennessey’s real-life Tonka Truck?

First, let’s look under the bonnet. There’s no shouty V8 in here I’m afraid, rather the the 3.5-litre V6 ‘Ecoboost’ fitted to the standard F-150 Raptor. Only here, Hennessey’s given it a turbocharger upgrade, a new front-mounted air-to-air intercooler and a tweaked ECU. This brings the total mechanical violence 597bhp and 622lb ft, making 0-60mph possible in 4.9 seconds, despite the conversion adding 300kg to the vehicle.

Each of the six wheels measure 20 inches in diameter, and are wrapped in chunky Toyo Open Country tyres. The shock absorbers are from Fox, and yes - each of the three axles can be locked. There are also various options available including beefier Brembo brakes (you’ll probably be wanting those), even bigger wheels and tyres, LED lighting and unspecified interior upgrades. Oh and apparently there’ll be “armoring systems” available too. Lovely.

Even with the reassuringly expensive pricing, Hennessey shouldn’t have any problem finding buyers, as just 50 Velociraptor 6x6s will be built.

It may have 2 more wheels, but it needs 2 more cylinders as well.

The fact this beast of a Raptor will clamber to 60 in a hair under 5 seconds is very quite a little scary!

But does it have portal axles? I think not, so the G63 6x6 is still better and it has a V8 :D
