When we catch wind of an exciting ‘industry leak’ that comes from an owners’ forum, we treat it with caution. But if this one is accurate then it’s big news, especially across the pond.

A Corvette Forum user has posted a document from IHS Markit, analysing market trends in the automotive industry. It reveals that the next (and mid-engined) Corvette C8 will have two new twin-turbo V8 engine options as well as the current supercharged 6.2-litre V8.

There will reportedly be a 5.5-litre boss unit with up to 850bhp and 720lb ft of torque, plus a small-block 4.2-litre alternative with less grunt, but, let’s face it, probably still plenty.

The IHS Markit release is said to have outlined that the supercharged 6.2-litre engine would continue to be built and installed into the C8. If that’s true, we’d expect fuel economy and tax advantages to start to nudge buyers towards the new, turbocharged units as part of a gradual phasing-out process.

As we reported a year ago, the C8 will be sold alongside the flagship models of the C7 for a couple of years, with Chevrolet likely championing the former as ‘the future’ and the latter as ‘the best of what’s gone by’. The document puts the C7 on track until 2021.
