Tyrese Gibson Issues F&F Quit Threat, Then Ends Spat With Dwayne Johnson

It seems the Fast and Furious ‘family’ can’t go very long without a bit of drama. Last year Dwayne Johnson posted a long rant accusing fellow cast members of being ‘candy asses’ (the comments were allegedly focused on Vin Diesel), a few months ago Michelle Rodriguez said she could leave the franchise if it didn’t change its portrayal of women, and now we have a new quit threat from another F&F star.

This time it’s Tyrese Gibson, who posted a lengthy tirade aimed at Dwayne Johnson, with the former claiming he won’t be in the ninth installment of the franchise if the latter is. The spat appears to have started due to Gibson taking umbrage at Fast and Furious 9 being delayed by a year to make way for the Hobbs/Shaw spin-off.

However, after several more disparaging Instagram posts went out, Gibson appeared to end the spat with one final message. “I️ had a real Heart to Heart with one of Dewayne’s [sic] associates and this will be my last post about him,” he said on the social media platform, adding, “I️ respect the associate who called.”

The next Fast and Furious film - the ninth of a planned 10 film ‘saga’ - was original down for an April 2019 release, before Universal delayed it until April 2020. The Hobbs/Shaw spin-off - in which Johnson and Jason Statham will star - will be released on 26 July 2019.
