Ford and Roush Performance have engineered a mouth-watering supercharger upgrade for the 2018 Mustang and F-150 truck. Brace for much power.

Both use Ford’s latest 5.0-litre V8 and have space for the supercharger bolt-on. The numbers are quite juicy, too. In the F-150 the engine is forced up to 640bhp and 600lb ft of torque, while Mustang rear tyres are going to be very afraid: the output in the famous pony car is a monstrous 700bhp and 610lb ft at 12psi of boost.

That puts it right in the mix with the Dodge Challeger Hellcat, which just has a few more horses. We wondered whether Ford would develop a weapon to fight Dodge with, seeing as Hennessey has already set itself up with a Dodge Demon-fighting Camaro called The Exorcist.

Designed specifically to work with the new engine’s combination of port and direct-injection fuelling, the power output with the upgrades applies to both manual and automatic cars. There’s no indication that either gearbox is too weak to handle the extra force.

The kit comes with everything needed to install it apart from tools and expertise. Get a Ford dealer to do it and you’ll keep your warranty, too.

It will go on sale early next year through Ford dealers, Ford Performance Warehouse distributors and Roush Performance dealers.
