Say Hello To The Fabulously Minimalist Mazda Vision Coupe Concept

Mazda’s future performance car plans have stepped up a notch, with the Japanese firm revealing the new ‘Vision Coupe’ concept at the Toyko Motor Show.

It follows up the RX Vision concept revealed at the last Tokyo show in 2015, but this time, it’s sprouted an extra pair of doors. Oh, and there’s no hints of rotary power on this occasion. Boo.

The striking yet minimalist exterior follows Mazda’s ‘Kodo - Soul of Motion’ design language, with what the firm calls a ‘“one-motion” form that conveys a sense of speed.” All in all, it’s pretty damn stunning.

The inside’s equally easy on the eye, with a disarmingly pared back cabin finished off nicely with an instrument binnacle that combines physical features with digital displays. Mazda hasn’t just lazily slapped a big screen in there - as is fast becoming the norm - and it’s paid off.

The meaning of this concept is open to good old fashioned speculation, but so far as we can see, this signals that any future, larger sports car from the brand is likely to be a much more luxurious affair, rather than a braap-fest RX-7 successor. Sorry…
