If You Could Actually Buy The Polestar 1, It'd Cost Around £130,000

The most interesting thing about the new Polestar 1 isn’t necessarily the 592bhp hybrid powertrain, nor is it the carbonfibre body. No - it’s the way you buy one: the cars will be available on a subscription basis only, with a monthly payment covering the depreciation, the insurance and maintenance. Want to buy one outright? Tough.

However, when pushed, Polestar’s Johan Meissner didn’t rule out a conventional purchase entirely, reports Autoblog.

“If you wish to understand the cost of a Polestar 1, purely for competitor comparative reasons, the indicative target price would be in the region of €130,000-150,000 (£116 - 134,000,” he said, adding, “If a customer wanted to purchase the car outright, this is something that we would assess nearer the time.”

So for the right figure it does seem as though Polestar might be willing to budge on its subscription-only mantra. And while the whole Netflix-style setup sounds unusual right now, rest assured: we’ll be seeing a lot more of this sort of thing in the coming years.
