The McLaren MSO R Coupe and Spider Are An Incredible Matching Pair Of Tuned 675LTs - For The Same Buyer

Ordered together by the same person, these two very special uprated McLarens are identical apart from their different roof styles. We'll take either, thanks

What do you do when one McLaren 675LT simply isn’t special enough? Order two, of course, but have them both built in matching custom spec, with unique model names, performance boosts and even bespoke keys.

The twins you see here are called the MSO R Coupe and Spider. Built as a pair for one very wealthy buyer, they have the same spec sheet except for the obvious difference in roof style. Why does this buyer need both, you ask? Honestly, we have no idea, especially when they’re both the same spec, but it does make them something of a rare pair. One day they’ll sell for a hell of a price at auction.

Both have the same twin-element rear wing, plus the same body kit additions in carbonfibre. There’s MSO R branding just about everywhere and Delta Red pinstriping on the front aero assembly. The wheels are the same on both cars.

On the inside, it’s an Alcantara frenzy. An orange-red seat fabric for the two buckets has the MSO R logo embroidered into the headrests. There’s a hailstorm of carbonfibre parts among a general black and red theme.

It’s not just a styling exercise, though. Such fripperies wouldn’t be enough to earn even a personal commission its own distinct name, surely. What we have here is the 675LT’s 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, but blueprinted and with the heads and exhaust ports hand-polished. That means power is pushed up by 13bhp to 679bhp. Torque is unchanged at 516lb ft.

The exhaust system has been tweaked as well, adding titanium end pipes; presumably just because they’re nice to have. Also nice to have are MSO R-branded keys rather than the usual kind. The final touch is a bespoke plaque on each car, identifying them and their place in McLaren history.
