Tesla's Semi Truck Won't Be Here Until Mid November
Tesla’s very first semi truck was supposed to be saying its big hello to the world on 26 October, but that’s now been pushed back to 16 November.
As you might have expected, the Model 3 is a factor. With just 220 delivered to customers thus far, production is way off target, and Elon Musk has announced that the company is indeed “diverting resources” to address the “bottlenecks” that are holding things up. But, there’s another, perhaps surprising factor that’s affected the big reveal: Hurricane Maria.
Maria knocked out power for a million people in Puerto Rico, and with severe power issues continuing to be an issue for the island, Tesla is sending over batteries and power solar panels.
It’s hoped the move will effectively rebuild Puerto Rico’s battered power grid. Musk has been in discussions with Ricardo Rossello - the territory’s government - about exactly how it’ll work.
With power restored to only nine per cent of residence as of last Friday, the batteries can’t come soon enough. A delay to a truck’s unveiling - no matter how potentially game changing the product - doesn’t seem like such a bad price to pay…
