Would you buy a Suzuki Jimny? The answer you’re looking for is: “yes, but only an old one that’s cheap enough to have some off-road giggles with.” But what about if it looked like this? We like!

This is Suzuki’s e-Survivor concept, which is set for some column inches at the Tokyo Motor Show next month. It’s electric, of course, and imagines a tiny off-roader from as far as 100 years into the future. It’s an open-top T-bar design like the one used on the much-mocked but now sort of ‘Barbie & Ken cool’ X-90 from the 1990s.

It’s a two-seater and looks cool as hell, frankly. It’s got some kind of ‘Wall-E meets child’s roller skate’ thing going on, but we love it. The massive ground clearance and almost non-existent overhangs suggest it could be seriously handy off-road, but driving range would theoretically be a bit of a problem.

Suzuki describes it as being made from ultra-lightweight materials, but it’s pretty conventional otherwise. It overlooks automation altogether (fist pump) and still uses the good old steering wheel and pedals. If only the new Jimny was basically this!
