Prepare For Shredded Tyres: A Chrysler 300 'Hellcat' Is Happening

Fan of the 6.2-litre Hellcat Hemi V8? We’ve some good news for your - it’s going to be stuffed into the snout of the Chrysler 300 late next year.

Chrysler will be the third FCA brand to use the 697bhp unit, after Dodge (Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat) and Jeep (Grand Cherokee Trackhawk). And yes, it - along with the rest of the 300 range - will still be built on the LX platform, originally derived from the W211 Mercedes, otherwise known as the E-Class from two generations ago.

A 300 replacement based on Alfa Romeo’s fancy new Giorgio platform has been cancelled in favour of a range of updates including the addition of the Hellcat engine, reports Automotive News, but there’s plenty of new blood on the way to fill Chrysler’s currently sparse stable.

The first to follow the 300 ‘Hellcat’ will be a new front-wheel drive midsize crossover in 2019. After that there’ll be a facelifted Pacifica minivan in 2020, and finally a full-size, three-row SUV that may revive the ‘Aspen’ name will arrive in 2021.

They all sound lovely, but we’ll stick with the shouty, supercharged V8 300, thanks…
