Good guy Ferrari is set to auction a unique LaFerrari Aperta for charity. Instead of banking the 1.5 million or so notes for the very special open-top hypercar, the profits will go to Save the Children for a programme aimed at providing an education for more kids from poorer backgrounds, in countries where many kids never see the inside of a classroom.

The little stunner in the RM Sotheby’s auction this Saturday is based on the hybrid heavyweight we know and love. It’s painted in Rosso Fuoco with a metallic Bianco Italia ‘double racing stripe’ flowing up the bonnet and around the engine bay to the rear spoiler. The 6.3-litre V12 and hybrid systems remain unchanged.

The interior is black Alcantara with ‘gloss black’ carbonfibre everywhere. It’s a hardcore look punctuated by yellow flashes for the rev counter dial, steering wheel Prancing Horse badge and four-point harness strap details. There’s also a series of red detail lines on the seats, helping to make the whole thing feel extra racy.

Problems? Well, the car and auction are both in Ferrari’s home town, Maranello, and to even be there on the day you need to be invited. Also, being for a good cause, the auction is likely to attract one or two philanthropic bidders who are happy for the price to go sky-high, as well as a selection of the super-rich who missed out on the original 200-car Aperta allocation. We’ll bring you news on the sale price after the auction.
