The Ferrari F430 Scuderia is a hardcore, lightened, track-focused, 503bhp weapon with no carpets. Buying one, therefore, should be counted as one of the greatest days of one’s motoring life.

For one owner, however, the first day of ownership of his £200,000 Italian thoroughbred quickly turned into disaster after only an hour of driving.

This charred and twisted hunk of metal is all that’s left of the lightweight exotic after it span off the road in wet conditions and went airborne on the M1 in South Yorkshire yesterday. After its unscheduled flight, the F430 careered down a bank for 50 metres before coming to a halt in a field and proceeding to burst into flames.

The as-of-yet unnamed driver thankfully managed to escape with only minor cuts and bruises (and damaged pride), and in a statement on Facebook, South Yorkshire Police confirmed that said driver had only collected the car an hour earlier before turning it into the pictured charred mess.

Looking at the photos of what remains of the car, it appears that this F430 Scuderia is very likely to be beyond repair which makes us extremely sad knowing that only a handful of these ultra-rare lightweight exotics ever made it to the UK.

Rest in piece, our Italian amico…
