The New Lincoln Navigator Is A Massive Towing Monster

Towing capacity is a big deal for big parts of America, and thanks to a weight cut in the new Navigator's shell, this model promises to haul even more weight than ever

If you like your four-wheeled slice of ‘Murica on the extra-large side, take a look at the new Lincoln Navigator.

It’s the company’s latest ‘full-size’ SUV, and is so massive that small animals actually change course as they pass its gravitational pull. We kid, because a new aluminium-alloy body has actually chopped over 80kg out of the shell, but Lincoln does claim that the new Navigator has more luggage space than an ocean liner. Or more than its rivals, at least.

The standard engine will be a twin-turbo V6 with around 450bhp, and you’ll find it hooked up to a 10-speed automatic gearbox, for all the ratios. Towing capacity will be huge; higher even than the previous car’s 4.08 tonnes (9000lbs), according to the firm.

Elsewhere you’ll find experience-enhancing gimmicks like illumination for the front ‘star’ grille, which lights up as it detects the keyholder’s approach, followed by LED lighting in the lower front body and tail light clusters. Because, y’know, you want your car to make you feel like an Instagram starlet every time you go near it.

Wi-Fi is standard, you can get wireless phone charging, six USB ports, four 12v power sockets and a US-standard 110v domestic plug. It must have one hell of a battery, too. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included in the media interface.

As for seating, the front two chairs are heated, cooled and massaged, with a claimed 30 channels of adjustment. Most owners will likely spend a month just trying to get the position right. Ten-inch Entertainment screens are options for the backs of the front seat headrests, and the middle-row passengers watching them can select what they want to watch either via an Android device, or the parent in the front passenger seat can choose the programme through Sync AppLink. As for rear-row passengers, they still get electric seat-back recline functions. Many comfort. Wow.
