Here's What The New Four-Cylinder Jaguar F-Type Sounds Like

A promotional video from Jaguar provides us our first chance to hear the F-Type's new 2.0-litre turbo engine option

In case you missed the news earlier this week, Jaguar is indeed putting an F-Type into production with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot under the bonnet.

With 297bhp and a 52kg drop in weight relative to the V6, you won’t be wanting for performance. In fact, to 60mph it’s actually a smidge quicker than the base six-pot. But what about noise? Well, we now have our first chance to hear the Ingenium lump in action.

We get a couple of short bursts of noise in the promotional video above (skip to around the 50sec and 1min 30sec marks if you don’t want to sit through the whole thing). It’s not enough to make a firm judgement, although it certainly sounds like Jaguar’s engineers have worked hard to extract a decent din from the uninspiring cylinder configuration.

What do you think?

Still not sure why anyone would buy a four-pot F-Type. It’d be like getting a non-v8 Mustang/Camaro/Challenger/etc.
