Hennessey Has Built A Dodge Demon-Slaying Camaro With 1000bhp And Called It The Exorcist

Your move, Dodge! Hennessey has tuned the Camaro up to astonishing levels of performance, producing a sub-10-second quarter-mile and Veyron-beating power

What do you do when your main rival is cooking up a high-power, drag-focused animal called Demon? Quickly whip up something much more powerful, of course, film it doing burnouts at a drag strip and call it The Exorcist.

That’s what you do if you’re Hennessey, anyway. The well-known Chevrolet tuner has taken the Camaro and fettled it all the way up to 1000bhp and a frankly bonkers 966lb ft, making mincemeat of the Dodge Demon’s rumoured 750bhp or so, dispatching the 0-60mph sprint in less than three seconds and running the quarter-mile in less than 10 seconds. You can even have it as a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic.

To reach the stratospheric new power output from the LT4 V8, there are size upgrades for the supercharger, fuel pump and cooling. The supercharger now runs at 14psi of boost pressure. The factory cylinder heads have been ported and underpinned with a better camshaft, upgraded headers, a high-flow induction system and a fresh ECU calibration.

Hennessey describes the car as being more than just a drag racer, despite wearing ‘drag’ rear tyres. In a press release the company said:

“The Exorcist is not just a quarter-mile racer. It’s a well-rounded super muscle car that is just as happy on a road course as it is on the drag strip and street. Needless to say, this will leave the competition’s heads spinning.”

Admittedly, the driver in the photos looks like some kind of Budget Stig, but it’s nonetheless a blatant counter-punch in favour of Chevrolet after Dodge’s over-long weekly Demon teaser process has left a lot of people frustrated. Wearing a modest boot spoiler, black multi-spoke alloys and a gorgeous red three-line stripe complete with its own name over the rear wheel arches, The Exorcist is, in its makers’ own words, ‘built to cast out demons’.

This is absolutely brilliant from Hennessey, reminiscent of the golden age of the 1960s Mustang vs Camaro fight, where each high-profile swipe at each rival made the muscle car scene the most exciting it’s ever been. Long may this game of cat-and-mouse continue!

I’m just going to point out that in the past, we have seen articles talking about how much of a fraud John Hennessey is… yet here CT is, building up one of his products yet again. Its great that such a vehicle can be built, but at the end of the day any article about Hennessey should either link back to an article about his fraudulent activities or mention that he often uses the money paid to him to build these types of vehicles instead of his client’s vehicles. The jalopnik article below starts to cover some of what he has done. CT should run an article covering his dishonesty and not just articles about the cars.

I think it time for the Dodge Demon to tap out and go back to the drawing board. Incredible to see what Hennessey can create! DEMON GOT CRUSHED

Not really. The Demon shows what a factory, road legal car can be. This is just an aftermarket tune that any shop could have done. That LT4 block easily puts out 1300 HP, but GM isn’t the one doing it. Plus Hennessy is a fake, he steals from his clients to make these one off cars. If you want your ZL1 to make these numbers have fun waiting many months for sub-par quality parts.

John Hennessy is crook, and a shady business man. Don’t praise him, for doing what any shop could pull off.

I agree completely. Its one thing to create powerful cars. Its something else entirely to steal from people. People like Koenigsegg are doing things the right way.

I’m not surprised….I mean,it’s an aftermarket tuned car while the Demon is a factory car

I don’t really feel like a fully upgraded, no where near stock Camaro competes with the Demon. We don’t give Lotus credit for the Venom GT.
