The Tesla Model 3 Has Just One Display, And It's Not In Front Of The Driver
Fans of common sense should look away now. The Tesla Model 3 is going to have no displays other than a giant tablet device attached to the middle of the dashboard.
That means no speedometer, rev counter, fuel gauge, temperature gauges or even a damn clock in front of the driver. Elon Musk has confirmed that all the Model 3’s readouts will be confined to the central screen, which could easily be compromised by glare in daylight.
Anyone who’s driven an old Citroen C4, or another car that relocates the crucial info away from the driver, will know what a colossal ballache this can be. It takes longer to read the necessary data, turns your eyes away from the road and just feels… wrong.
Tesla is making the move to boost the futuristic, minimalist interior feel of the new Model 3, focusing on providing a layout that works for Autopilot mode, but in the process it sacrifices the everyday practicality of having multiple dials and screens. It could even be down to cost-cutting as Tesla scrambles to make a profit.
Tweets from Elon Musk also confirm that the Model 3 won’t be getting a head-up display of any kind, either. It means drivers really will have to deal with just the one screen, which, when the sun is in the wrong place, will be completely illegible. Is it just us, or is this an astonishingly bad idea if you’re driving the car yourself?

I absolutely hate the idea of putting critical information anywhere other than in front of the driver, hell, even some aftermarket gauges aren’t in an ideal location for easy reading. Have it in the standardised instrument location behind the steering wheel, on the dash top or along the A pillar. There’s no reason to make it any harder to get the information you need. Hell, even a console mounted tachometer is bloody stupid (I’m looking at you GM)
I have a great understanding of technology thank you very much. I just don’t get why everyone worships Apple when they are nothing special.
I’m sure boosting the feature of the Autopilot system is great and all, but now every country that Autopilot isn’t ready for loses out on the potential of an affordable, entry level, fully electric car. Tesla loses thousands more customers.
Then,if we’re not using autopilot,how to read the speed?

If I didnt want a Tesla before, then I definitely dont want one now.
This is a big lawsuit waiting to happen.
Governments should make it illegal to do this sort of thing in cars that can still be manually driven.

Fuel as in what the car is powered by so the term is correct now if he said gas gauge that’d be a different story
The mini also has the speedometer in the middle. But why not a small display with speed and range? As long as it is readable in the sun it will be ok since the screen is so big and close to the steering wheel, it shows the speed in the top left corner.
No longer, the new version has the speedometer behind the steering wheel. The r56 has, and it’s totaly useless. I always use the digital one, when I get to drive one.
