Vauxhall has renamed the shade of yellow it uses on its Corsa in honour of the man whose vandalised car made national news.

Buyers can now order cars in Maddox Yellow, in an absolutely outstanding show of support from the manufacturer to the car’s former owner, pensioner Peter Maddox.

Tourists to the picture-perfect village of Bibury had been complaining for a long time about the yellow Corsa that was ‘ruining’ their photographs of the picturesque Arlington Row, and people went as far as to vandalise it by smashing windows and scratching the word ‘move’ into the bonnet.

Its 84-year-old owner initially threatened to get a lime green Corsa to replace his damaged one, but gave in to fear of reprisals and bought a grey replacement with his insurance payout after the yellow one was written off.

But to spite the idiots who did the damage, a Facebook group has organised a convoy of yellow cars through Bibury on Saturday April 1st, gaining sponsorship money to go towards Mr Maddox’s chosen charity, The Butterfly Garden, which is an educational and therapeutic outlet for people of all ages dealing with a variety of disabilities.

The old gent is quoted as saying:

“I was upset when I found that my Vauxhall Corsa had been vandalised just because of the colour.

“I am touched by the support I have received since. It’s great to see both Vauxhall Motors and the public supporting me and The Butterfly Garden, a charity close to my heart.”

Vauxhall’s director of communications, Denis Chick, said that the company was inspired by the outpouring of anger against the as-yet-uncaught vandals and the support for Mr Maddox. He said:

“When we heard Peter’s story we were inspired at the way it captured the heart of the public. We wanted to show our support for Peter, which is why we’re renaming our yellow shade to ‘Maddox Yellow’.

“We will also be in the car convoy to show our support. It is for a great cause and no doubt a fun day for lovers of all yellow cars, including Vauxhalls.”

I find it hard to believe that this is the work of a member of the woolie hat brigade. Sounds like the sort of moronic stunt a disgruntled stuck-up local who thinks the car isn’t in keeping with the look of the village. I was ‘spoken to’ by two neighbours after I erected a bike shed in my front garden ( as opposed to the back garden ) - so I painted it bright blue and that really pissed ‘em off !!!
