McLaren’s new Super Series car is going to have a phenomenally cool folding dual-position display, the company has confirmed.

In full mode the widescreen Folding Driver Display shows a typical range of speed, engine speed, exterior and engine temperatures and so on, but at the flip of a switch the display tilts forward and slides back into the dashboard, revealing a second, smaller screen.

Slim Display Mode then distils the data down to only what the drive really needs, for when you want to go full racecar. Specifics are yet to be confirmed but this image suggests it will stop at speed, gear selection and gearbox mode and engine speed. It also looks to us like an 8000rpm redline is on the cards.

All will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show on March 7 when project P14, rumoured to become the 720S, finally makes its debut after months of frustrating teasers. Like this one.

The driver can set the system up to switch to Slim Display Mode on specific drive modes, for example using Full Display Mode in Comfort and Sport, but Slim Mode in Track.

We also now know that the central, vertical touch-screen idea in the current Super Series will stay put. A vertical ‘carousel’ of menu options will span audio and media, sat-nav and car settings, as well as having quick-access keys.
