The Giulia may have been the first step in Alfa Romeo’s grand rebirth, but today the Italian company revealed what’s arguably a much more important element: the Stelvio.

Yep, car buyers worldwide can’t get enough of posho SUVs, so Alfa really has to nail the Stelvio. And in the looks department of the newly revealed car, we reckon it’s pretty well sorted.

It’s quick, too. Alfa has used the hot Quadrifoglio version to give the Stelvio the most bombastic entrance possible, and yes, it’s packing the same 503bhp 2.9-litre Ferrari-ish derived V6 as the hottest Giulia. It’s scarcely slower, hitting 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds.

Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, with up to 100 per cent sent to the rearmost boots under most situations. Bringing things to a stop meanwhile are a set of carbon ceramic brakes.

Sound a bit much for you? Don’t worry, there will be a few cheaper, less powerful versions for normals. There’ll be a 2.0-litre four-pot turbo petrol kicking out 276bhp and 295lb ft of torque, and we’re expecting the Giulia’s 2.2-litre diesel lumps plus a lower powered 2.0-litre to make an appearance.

Expect to pay over £60,000 for the Quadrifoglio, with the rest of the range starting somewhere in the region of £35,000 - £40,000.

Would you have this, or a Porsche Macan?
