Are The Ford Mustang GT350 And GT350R About To Get DCT 'Boxes?

The Ford Mustang GT350 and GT350R do an amazing job of redefining what we think a muscle car is capable of. However, these flat-plane crank V8-powered track cars both have something that tie them to the past: one of those little sticks between the front seats you use to change gears.

Yep, from launch, the hottest versions of the Mustang have only been given the option of an old-school six-speed manual gearbox. That could be set to change though, with Road & Track citing evidence uncovered by Mustang6g.com which suggests a dual-clutch automatic gearbox will make its way to the two cars within the next couple of years. And before you start panicking: yes, the manual will still be available.

As to what particular ‘box Ford will use, a development of the seven-speed transmission in the Ford GT seems the likely choice.

What do you think: is the idea of a DCT Mustang heresy, or does it make sense given the GT350 and GT350R’s track-friendly persuasion?

This is good, more sales figures, easier to drive and better lap times

Not worth it imo. the manual is amazingly engineered, and the only benefit of an auto would be lap times/ 0-60. And the 350R is already the fastest in its class, plus theres more to like about a muscle car than the numbers

I find it to be a no go. Ford and GM spent quite a lot of time and money creating the marvelous 10-Speed, which hasn’t even hit dealers yet. AM I the only one here who thinks this?
