Mark Webber Drove His Porsche WEC Car Around London And It Looked Epic
So you’re walking to work from the tube station at silly o’clock in the morning, when suddenly you see a Porsche LMP1 prototype car driving past. That’s what commuters witnessed this morning in central London.
Ex-F1 driver and current FIA World Endurance Championship champion Mark Webber took to his Porsche 919 Hybrid this morning on the city’s streets.
Passing iconic landmarks like Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and Hyde Park, it was probably quite a surprising sight for those in the centre of London between 6 and 7am this morning.
Webber’s route took him from Park Lane to the County Hall Hotel on London’s South Bank, near the London eye.
The 919 Hybrid passed through London alongside the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, which made its global debut. It’s powered by a combustion engine and an electric motor charged by lithium-ion batteries, just like the WEC car.
Through its various upgrades, the Porsche 919 Hybrid has won the famous Le Mans 24 Hours twice, 12 WEC races and two world titles – winning the constructors’ and drivers’ crowns in 2015.
It certainly made for quite a sight for those who woke up early to see the 919 Hybrid pass through London, or those who just happened to stumble across a prototype race car passing through the city streets.
