Middle Lane Hogs Are One Of Driving's Biggest Nuisances

Middle lane hogging is now illegal, yet people still do it, completely oblivious to their surroundings. Here's how bad the issue really is...

Legally speaking, if you’re cruising at 70 in lane 1 and you catch up with someone pootling in lane 2, you’re supposed to pull out to lane 3 to pass them, right? Even if the road is clear ahead on both 1 and 2 and there’d be no actual danger involved in simply passing them in 1?

Being in the middle lane isn’t the problem, being complacent and lacking awareness of whats going on around you is the problem. On an empty motorway (at least nothing in front and nothing coming behind faster than me), I will ‘hog’ the middle lane, because it gives more time to react to hazards coming from the sides of the road and for any hazard in my lane, I have more than one escape route.

Aren’t the left lanes supposed to be reserved for slow trucks and lorries?

In portugal there isn’t much middle lane hoggers but when I see one I just overtake them and I slow down, and when they are trying to overtake me I don’t let them xD

I see lane hogs a lot since almost all city streets here are 3 lanes.

I live in the south East. And now vicroad are doing a trial of introducing a 90kph for trucks on the Monash frreway, which is so stupid. And they’re doing a second stage of trial banning truck from the right lane. I can’t even condemn of who has come up with that idea.

Could someone explain how this works because in Sweden we seldom got more than 2 lanes and this is more confusing than Engineering Explained (I’m not that bright).
