No, Apple Isn't Going To Take Over McLaren

After a sudden influx of rumours surrounding Apple and the British supercar brand, a spokesperson at McLaren has come forward and declared that the company is “not in discussion with Apple in respect of any potential investment.”

An article from the Financial Times today set the ball rolling, dictating Apple’s attempt to “transform the car industry” with a financial takeover of McLaren on top of their plans to manufacture a self-driving electric vehicle.

Apple has been seeking an inlet to the automotive industry for the past couple of years, making calls like hiring ex-Tesla executive Chris Porritt to aid the company’s latest developments. However, with funding being cut from its automotive programme in recent months, it appears that Apple is looking to venture into the operating systems and internals used to power a vehicle, rather than producing an entire car themselves.

Although McLaren has denied any takeover talks, that does not rule out any attempt from Apple to gain some vital knowledge from McLaren Special Operations on its expertise in electric motors and lightweight materials from the P1 programme.

Could McLaren’s cars be filled with Apple technology in the near future? We’ll have to wait and see…

Apple should sponsor the F1 team. Honestly that sounds like a really good match. Two of the greatest tech companies in the world put together. And it would give McLaren a nice financial boost too.

The financial times journalist who wrote the article claims that 3 different contacts from McLaren told him the same thing.

The fact the he hasn’t withdrawn his article after McLaren released a statement saying it’s untrue tells me otherwise.

This would probably be a good move for Apple, it would give them more leverage for when they try to buy Tesla again. They already showed an interest in buying F1. McLaren also operates at a loss much like Tesla.

Not too long ago Apple acquired Beats for 3 Billion so the 2 billion valuation on McLaren is relatively small for them. Also the owe 14.5 billion in tax to the EU so they could buy McLaren, restructure the company and move it to the US as a big F you! To the EU.

For the love of the car

Thank god. Apple would have been like “ we have removed the steering but if you want a steering wheel you have to buy this adapter for 250000$.”

Apple aren’t investing in anything, they are buying the company as a whole. There’s a difference.
Also, because of some tax dodging, Apple now owes the EU $14.5 billion. So this is going to be their indirect way of paying back.
They did approach Tesla a while back, but Elon said no. Hence they’ve gone to McLaren.
