6 Cars The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Can Match To 60mph

This week, Chevrolet revealed how much the new ZL1 will cost, and crucially, its performance stats. Turns out it can match an impressive array of machinery in the 0-60mph dash...

It’s official: the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will cost you $62,135. Well, if you want a coupe - the convertible model is a shade more at $69,135. And while we’re on the subject of the new sixth-gen Camaro, Chevrolet also confirmed this week that the 1LE package will cost $4500 for the V6 ‘LT’ (giving you SS suspension) and $6500 for the V8 ‘SS’ (giving you magnetic ride suspension plus the ZL1’s electronically controlled limited-slip differential).

But if I may go back to that ZL1 price one moment: it’s quite a bit in the land of pony cars, isn’t it? The still-rather-brisk LT is just $26,305, after all. However, you get a hell of a lot of poke for your cash: we already knew that the 2017 ZL1 was putting out 641bhp and 640lb ft of torque, but now Chevrolet has revealed the performance figures. Thanks to the extra power from the 6.2-litre supercharged ‘LT4’ V8 and a 100kg drop in weight compared to the old one, we’re looking at a car that’ll do 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds, a standing quarter-mile in 11.4 seconds at 127mph, and hurt your face with 1G cornering forces.

So, where does that 3.5sec 0-60 time put the new ZL1 in the world of fast cars? Here’s a surprising list of cars it’ll match to 60mph:

Bad News Bear

The new R8 V10 Plus does 0-60 in 2.8. Old ones it can run with but not these new ones.
(I know that’s the last gen R8 in the pic but just stating it for so)

What I don’t understand is at $62,000, it’s in the Corvette base price range but it has about 200 more horsepower and torque than a base model Corvette so doesn’t this car objectively make the base Corvette pointless?

Think of who buys the base model corvette, people with midlife crisis who want a new corvette. They don’t want a camaro, just a corvette

I think, honestly, we should start looking at 1/4 mile if not 1/2 mile times. 0-60 is such a weird factor in modern cars because of the gearing used.
