A Koenigsegg One:1 Has Been Smashed To Pieces At The Nurburgring

Koenigsegg's 'megacar' suffered a horrific accident on the Nordschleife on Monday, hitting the Armco hard

With Koenigsegg’s One:1 spotted hammering around the Nurburgring earlier this year, speculation naturally suggested the Swedish hypercar company was after the Nordschleife lap record for street legal cars. It now looks like we might be waiting a little longer for that record to be stolen, as on Monday, Koenigsegg suffered a big setback in the form of this horrific-looking crash.

In a statement, the company confirmed that despite the severity of the crash (take a look at the state of the car and the Armco, and you’ll get a sense of the impact), the driver escaped serious injury. “The driver was taken to hospital as per standard procedures in such situations and was released the same afternoon,” Koenigsegg said, going on to say: “This incident is confirmation of just how difficult it is to drive at this level on the world’s ultimate proving ground. Obviously we are dismayed with this development but pleased that our safety systems worked as designed to protect our driver.”

Koenigsegg also confirmed that a record attempt was indeed on the cards, saying: “Koenigsegg has participated in Industry Pool testing for a week in each of the last two months, working primarily on vehicle setups both for ongoing vehicle development and for an attempt at a Nurburgring lap record at some time in the future.”

So, what exactly went wrong? If you take a look at the tarmac on this particular part of the track - located in the Adenauer Forst area - and you’ll see a pair of skid marks leading right up to the crash site. This could indicate an ABS issue. After contacting Koenigsegg about the crash, a company spokesperson confirmed that we’ll need to wait a while before the cause is determined: “We will say more when we know more….We need to get the car back to Angelholm [Koenigsegg’s HQ] and look at the data.”

What we do know is the car will be rebuilt, so we should hopefully see the One:1 back out on the Nordschleife soon.

“For sale, One:1, never raced, minor scratches from daily use, small mechanical problem (easy fix to who does at home car maintenance)”

James Marshall

It’s simple; this guy was doing FailRace’s One:1 Distance Challenge IRL, and decided upon the ‘drive slowly at the beginning then make up time at the end’ approach, with disastrous consequences!
