It certainly seems like this is a jolly good week for track cars. We’ve had two circuit-friendly McLarens - the P1 LM and the 570S Sprint - and now this: the Vuhl 05RR. It’s based on the Vuhl 05 - a car you’ve probably not heard of, but on paper it least, it looks more than worthy of our attention.

Mounted mid-ship is Ford’s 2.3-litre Ecoboost engine, AKA the thing you’ll find stuffed under the snouts of the Mustang and the Focus RS. Only here, the wick has been turned up, meaning you get 380bhp to play with. Since the dry weight is just 625kg, that allows for a power-to-weight ratio of 600bhp/tonne, which Vuhl proudly gloats as being “greater than the Ferrari F12 tdf, McLaren P1 and Bugatti Veyron.”

0-62mph takes just 2.7 seconds, and the top speed is 160mph. Although if you fancy achieving the later without permanently warping your face, you may want to wear a helmet.

Other than the fact the 05RR has no roof or windscreen, Vuhl has kept the weight down thanks to a lightweight carbon/aluminium monocoque chassis clad in carbonfibre body panels. Other cool details include a huge rear wing, an “F1-inspired” rear diffuser, and a six-speed sequential gearbox.

Want one? The standard Vuhl 05 is £59,995, but for this more powerful, carbonfibre infused version you’ll need at least £89,995.

It’ll make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend.
