This Subaru WRX STI Just Smashed The Isle Of Man TT Car Lap Record
Remember that bonkers Prodrive-fettled Subaru WRX STI we were talking about a few months ago? Rally driver Mark Higgins has now had his chance to hurl it around the 37.5 mile Snaefell Mountain Course at this year’s Isle of Man TT, and has already smashed his previous record.
Last year in a mostly standard WRX STI he clocked a 117.510mph average, but he’s eclipsed that run today with a 126.971mph, 17min 49.75sec lap. To put that in context, the current lap record for bikes is 16min 58.254sec, equating to 133.393mph.
The car has more runs too (TeamCT will actually be taken for a passenger ride in the car on Monday), so we could yet see a faster time. Unlike the car Higgins used last year this WRX STI is a lot less standard, and as well as having new aero and suspension it’s kicking out over 500bhp. We can’t wait to see what else it might be capable of.
